名前のとおり、R-01 直線レールの半分の長さのレールです。
しなやかで折れにくいポリプロピレン製です。
As the name indicates, it’s half as long as R-01 straight rail.

プラレールセットには、入っていないこともあれば2本くらい入っていることもあります。
自動ターンアウトレール(R-19)や自動ポイントレール(R-16)には1本、交差ポイントレール(R-14)には4本の1/2直線レールが付属します。また、操車場(J-06)にはグレーの1/2直線レールが3本付属します。
これらに加えて、1セット(6本)の1/2直線レールがあればよいでしょう。全部で10本前後になるかと思います。
Some Plarail set products contain two 1/2 straight rails and some set products don’t.
Automatic turnout rail (R-19) and automatic point rail (R-16) come with one 1/2 straight rail, grade crossing point rail (R-14) comes with four 1/2 straight rails, and marshaling yard (J-06) comes with three gray 1/2 straight rails.
In addition to those, get just 1 pack (6 pcs) of 1/2 straight rails. About ten 1/2 straight rails in total – should be sufficient.

使いかたのコツ (Tips for Use)

1. 立体交差で橋脚をかわす (To avoid pier block at multi-level crossing)

十字の立体交差を作ろうとすると、下のレールが橋脚にぶつかってしまうことが多いです。
こんなとき、1/2直線レールを使うと橋脚と橋脚の間をうまく通すことができます。
When you build a multi-level crossing, the lower level track tends to come at a pier block for the upper level track.
You’ll be able to pass the lower track between the pier blocks by using 1/2 straight rail.

2. 長い分岐レールや情景といっしょに使う (Use with longer point rails or scenery parts)

自動ターンアウトレール(R-19)や自動ポイントレール(R-16)は直線部分が直線レール1+1/2本分、
複線幅広ポイントレール(R-15)や複線ターンアウトレール(R-28)は直線レール1+1/4本分の長さになっています。
Each automatic turnout rail (R-19) and automatic point rail (R-16) is as long as 1+1/2 straight rails.
Each double track wide point rail (R-15) and double track turnout rail (R-28) is as long as 1+1/4 straight rails.

またほとんどの情景部品は直線レール1本分の長さになっていますが、
大きな踏切(J-21)は直線レール1+1/2本分、小さな踏切(J-18)は1/2直線レールと同じ長さです。
Although most scenery parts are as same length as 1 straight rail, large railroad crossing (J-21) is as long as 1+1/2 straight rails and small railroad crossing (J-18) is as same length as 1/2 straight rail.

このようなレールや情景を使うとき、長さを合わせるために1/2直線レールが活躍することが多いです。
When you use such rails and/or scenery parts, 1/2 straight rails should be active to adjust the length of the track.

3. リバース線に使う (To make a reverse track)

1/4直線レールと組み合わせると、直線レールの長さでつなぎ目が凹凹や凸凸になったものを作ることができます。
In combination with 1/4 straight rails, you can make a straight rail with Female-Female or Male-Male joints.

別の記事でご紹介しているリバース線などに使えます。
It can be applied to build a reverse track.

4. 直線レールの代わりに使う (Substitute for straight rail)

直線レールが足りないとき、1/2直線レールが2本あれば、直線レールの代わりになります。
When you need more straight rails, two 1/2 straight rails substitute for one straight rail.

5. ブロック橋脚にのせるときは裏 (Use back side up on a pier block)

1/2直線レールには表裏がありませんが、よく見ると片面には成形時のものと思われる点々があります。
ここでは、この点々のない面を表、点々のある面を裏と呼ぶことにします。
Half straight rail is reversible and there are spots on one side which are probably due to the production process.
In this website, we call the side with no spots “front" and the side with spots “back."

ブロック橋脚に直線レールをのせるとき、表を上にすると、凹側のつなぎ目の点々と橋脚の突起が干渉して、少しだけ真ん中からずれてしまいます。
When you put the straight rails on a block pier with their front side up, the spots at the joint contact the protrusions at the edge of pier block, and the rail joint cannot come exactly at the center.

このずれはふつうに遊ぶ分には問題ありませんが、裏を上にして橋脚にのせればピッタリ真ん中に合わせられるようになります。
It will be solved by using the back side up, though usually you don’t have to care of this small offset.

ただし、製造国や製造時期によって裏の点々がないレールもあるようです。
下の写真の例だと、2020年1月タイ製のレール(上)には点々がありますが、2016年12月ベトナム製のレール(下)には点々がありません。
Maybe depending on the date and/or country of manufacture, there are 1/2 straight rails without spots on the back.
In the picture below, the top one has the spots which was made in January 2020 in Thailand and the bottom one doesn’t which was made in December 2016 in Vietnam.
